This short film, to be released on 11 June 2022, celebrates James Joyce as UCD student and his significance for contemporary student life today. So many aspects of Joyce’s student life continue to resonate: he was the first in his family to graduate from college; his student interests ranged through modern languages, classics, philosophy, music as well as literature; he was a brave contributor to fellow student publications (where he was not always welcomed….); he was a passionate reader of international writing. In marking this Joyce centenary, we aim to celebrate the creativity, diversity and resilience of our students, now in 2022, alongside the historic legacies provided by UCD student culture.
